Abuja – Deputy leader of the Biafra Nations Youth League, Ebuta Takon, has appealed to government to release jailed activist, Nnamdi Kanu, to avert a crisis.
He pointed out militancy was already on the rise following the lengthy detention of the proponent of the independence of Biafra.
Takon also warned the government on plans to prosecute a prominent former militant lest another crisis was sparked.
“We are worried over the rise of militancy in the Niger Delta, especially the recent attempt to hijack foreign ship by militants supporters of Biafra independence,” said Takon.
“The Federal Government should give peace a chance by releasing Kanu, and stop the killings of unarmed protesters, we equally want the military to stop haunting Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo , we can address the issue of militancy if our request is being granted.”
Takon said these are among other issues that will feature in the Biafra National Youth League Congress scheduled for next month.
“We are warming up for our final congress and this issue will be considered for discussion, With God on our side nothing will stop us. Our final congress will hold on April 9th 2016, and we hope to come up with a resolution that will provide long lasting solutions to Biafra independence.”
Kanu was arrested in October and faces charges that include terrorism.
