Harare – A Zimbabwean human rights group has vowed to continue to protest Deputy President Phekezela Mphoko’s continued stay at an expensive hotel in capital Harare, reportsNewsDay.
Mphoko has been staying at the presidential suite at Rainbow Towers Hotel for well over a year as the government has not been able to find him a “suitable home”.
One of the activists, Tendai Lynnette Mudehwe said they would be distributing fliers throughout the country as they are calling on ordinary Zimbabweans to join in the protest.
In a press statement, the activist further stated that the money used to pay for the hotel could be channelled towards underfunded sectors such as health and education, the report said.
“… the late vice president John Landa Nkomo was so humble to the extent that he resided in his private home. It’s a first in Zimbabwe that a vice president takes residence in a luxurious Hotel,” the statement read.
On twitter, a Zimbabwean blogger tweeted that the deputy president’s continued stay at the hotel highlights the arrogance of Zimbabwe’s politicians and leadership.
