Cape Town – A blaze that ripped through a wholesaler in Mitchells Plain on Tuesday morning caused structural damage and destroyed most of the goods, the City of Cape Town Fire Services said.

The fire at the 1Up Cash and Carry was reported shortly after 04:30, said spokesperson Theo Layne.

By 10:30, clean-up operations were still underway.

The fire was contained to the wholesaler and no adjacent buildings were damaged, he said.

Three fire engines, a rescue vehicle and specialised services helped extinguish the blaze.

“The cause of the fire has not yet been determined,” Layne said, adding that the matter has been handed over to police for further investigation.
