Only one survivor has been rescued since mud and rock buried 27 homes in the village of Lidong late Friday after two days of downpours, the Xinhua news agency reported.
More than 2 300 rescuers and a team of specially trained dogs were continuing rescue operations in rainy conditions, Xinhua said.
A massive lake of mud was hampering efforts, the report said, citing Mao Zirong, the deputy mayor of the nearby city of Lishui.
A team of 50 professional psychologists was dispatched to assist family members of the victims.
