Schoolkids hurt in Pietermartizburg smash

Johannesburg – A total of 15 people, mostly schoolchildren, were injured on Wednesday morning when a taxi and car collided at the intersection of Slangspruit Street and Trelawney Road in Pietermaritzburg, paramedics said.

ER24 paramedics along with other emergency services arrived on the scene and found both vehicles parked on the road side outside a school, spokesperson Russel Meiring said.

The children who had been in the taxi were found sitting on the sidewalk with their teacher.

Paramedics assessed the patients and found 14 children and one adult had sustained minor injuries in the collision.

They were all treated on scene before being transported to various facilities for further treatment.
Local authorities were on scene and are investigating the incident.
