Durban – A teenager was killed in a “high-speed” crash on the N2 at the M19 off-ramp in Durban late on Wednesday, KwaZulu-Natal paramedics said.Crisis Medical spokesperson Kyle van Reenen said the 18-year-old’s car had veered from the road and struck the barrier.
“Paramedics arrived on scene to find the wreckage of a BMW occupying the width of the roadway, with the driver still in the vehicle.”
“Specialised rescue tools were needed to cut the man free and on closer examination it was discovered that he had unfortunately suffered a fatal traumatic brain injury. He was declared dead on the scene.”
“The facts pertaining to the incident are unclear. However, eyewitness accounts allege the driver lost control of the vehicle at high speed, colliding with the Armco-barriers before spinning several times and colliding with the concrete support of the overhead bridge,” Van Reenen added.
“The South African Police Services were in attendance and the incident is under investigation. The roadway remained closed well into the early hours of Thursday morning while emergency services worked to clear the scene.”
