20 girls who had been expelled from a secondary school in Bungoma County a fortnight ago after they were found pregnant have a chance to continue with their education following a directive by the Ministry of Education to readmit them.
The girls, aged between 14 and 18 were expelled after testing positive for pregnancy in an examination conducted in December last year.
Reports indicate that 4 of the girls were in Form Four, 8 in Form Three, 6 in Form Two, 2 in Form One while 2 had already dropped out of school.
While expelling them, the school Principal Peter Kororia is reported to have said they were an embarrassment to the school, and vowed to not register the 8 in Form Three for their final Kenya Cerificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams.
However, they got a second lease of life after the Education official ordered the Principal to readmit them saying they had a right to continue with their education regardless of their status.
