Suspect in Tupac Shakur Killing Denies Murder

In a US court, a former gang member who has long been linked to the murder of rap icon Tupac Shakur 25 years ago pleaded not guilty. Duane “Keefe D” Davis, 60, was charged with murder in September, despite the fact that he was not the one wielding the weapon in the Las Vegas gang feud.

Davis, a former member of Compton’s South Side Crips gang, previously confirmed his involvement, claiming to be the “on-site commander” seeking vengeance for an attack on his nephew.

Davis rejected the allegation of murder with a dangerous weapon with the intent to promote, further, or assist a criminal gang during a court hearing in Las Vegas. A murder charge in Nevada might result from helping or abetting a murder. If Davis is convicted, prosecutors have stated that they will not seek the death sentence.

Tupac Shakur, a well-known hip-hop artist, was assassinated on September 7, 1996, when he was 25 years old. He was affiliated with Death Row Records, which was involved with the Los Angeles street gang Mob Piru, which had a conflict with the South Side Compton Crips.

Prosecutors had little admissible evidence until Davis discussed the crime in an autobiography and on a television appearance. Davis’s previous statements will be evaluated during the trial. Despite the international interest on the case, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson stressed that the focus will stay on presenting evidence to the jury for the final conclusion.
