947 and Huawei have announced the winners of the music talent search competition in the run-up to the second online rendition of Huawei Joburg Day with 947. The two winners will perform on the same stage as some of South Africa’s biggest names.
A total of 10 finalists were presented to the 947 audience, who had the opportunity to vote for two new acts to join the line-up for Huawei Joburg Day 2021. They each received a mentoring session from a well-known South African artist, R20 000 cash and the new Huawei Mate40 Pro to capture their journey. The two winners were Jordan Rivers and Courus.
22-year-old Jordan Rivers (real name Jordan Heathcote) is from Vereeniging and is currently working on his first EP, which is set for release later this year. Jordan was mentored by Jesse Clegg.

“Working with Jesse was amazing and just a little bit overwhelming. He’s such a down to earth guy; he gave real solid advice about the industry and what it takes to succeed. We also focused a lot on the actual stage performance part of it, which was great,” he said.
The other winner was Randburg-based Courus (real name Courtney Williams). She describes her music as a fusion of neo-soul, hip-hop, contemporary jazz and RnB. She has always been a fan of Mi Casa, even performing at an open mic session at J’Something’s restaurant.
“Being mentored by the guys from Mi Casa was such an experience! They are really amazing performers; their insights about always responding to the crowd, about loving the music and letting yourself feel the passion have been invaluable,” she said.
