This year’s Madaraka day celebrations will be held in Nakuru County.
This comes as a fulfilment of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s promise of devolving national days celebrations which have over the years been held in Nairobi.
During his tour of Nakuru County in March, the President promised to hold one of this year’s national day celebrations in Nakuru.
According to Nakuru County TNA chairman, Harrison Muiruri, State House has confirmed that the June 1st celebrations will be held at either Afraha stadium or the ASK showground in Nakuru.
Speaking Wednesday in Nakuru town, Muiruri said that it is a constitutional requirement for the President to devolve the national days celebrations.
“It’s true that this year’s Madaraka day celebrations will be held here in Nakuru and the President will be leading the celebrations,”said Muiruri.
“This will be a national celebration and State House will take charge of everything. What we will just provide will be the venue,” he added.
This will be the sixth time the President will be visiting Nakuru County in a span of four months.
On April 16th, President Kenyatta led the Jubilee brigade in a massive thanksgiving rally at the Afraha stadium after the collapse of the cases that were facing deputy President William Ruto and journalist Joshua Sang at the Hague based international criminal court.
