Boko Haram released a new video on claiming to show the missing Nigerian schoolgirls, alleging they had converted to Islam and would not be released until all militant prisoners were freed. A total of 276 girls were abducted on April 14 from the northeastern town of Chibok, in Borno state, which has a sizeable Christian community. Some 223 are still missing. It has been revealed that President Muhammadu Buhari rejected a 5 billion euro ransom demand by Boko Haram in exchange for the release of the missing Chibok schoolgirls, Naij reports.

Buhari undertook the facilitation of negotiation tactics with the terror group by agreeing to exchange Boko Haram prisoners for the exchange of the Chibok girls and on several occasions transported the captured terrorists to Maiduguri to facilitate an exchange.

This was revealed in a recent authorised biography titled “Muhammadu Buhari: The Challenges of Leadership in Nigeria,” by Prof. John Paden.

“On several occasions, prisoners were taken to Maiduguri to facilitate an exchange. But these negotiations stalled when Boko Haram demanded a ransom of €5billion for the girls.

“The dilemma for the DSS, which was handling the negotiations, was that a military assault to rescue the girls would almost certainly result in their deaths at the hands of their Boko Haram captors.

“But the Nigerian government was not going to accede to Boko Haram’s extra-ordinary demand for a vast sum of money which would no doubt be used to fund future attack,” excerpts from the book read.

The book also revealed how Buhari chose Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo as his running partner in the 2015 presidential elections despite strong opposition from All Progressives Congress national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

It detailed how despite the general consensus, Tinubu was not instrumental in the emergence of Osinbajo and strongly opposed the selection of him as Buhari’s running mate.
