The government has rubbished claims by the opposition leaders that they agreed to form teams to represent them in talks on how the IEBC will be reconstituted.
On Thursday, Raila Odinga constituted a five-member team to that effect but Jubilee failed to name their team members saying that they did not enter into any such agreement with opposition.
“No such agreement was struck, as it would have been inconsistent with President Kenyatta’s stand on the subject, which is that any discussions on the IEBC or any other constitutional body must be done within confines of the law,” read a statement from the Presidency.
The Presidency also accused a local daily that allegedly carried a story alleging that the two leaders had agreed to reconstitute the electoral body.
During the National Prayer Breakfast on Friday, President Uhuru Kenyatta reiterated his stand on the matter.
“I took an oath to defend the constitution, and that is what I am doing,” he said, adding that the God had solved the issues facing Kenya by giving us the Constitution in 2010.
CORD has however insisted that IEBC must go, either through dialogue with the government or street protests.
