Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has come out of support to those who are calling for the restructuring of Nigeria, while questioning the All Progressives Congress decision to backtrack on its first calls for true federalism, Vanguard reports.
Fayose hailed the calls for restructuring by the Southwest APC, saying that mechanisms should now be put in place to enable these changes in the country.
“It is on record that the APC said that it (APC) would make sure true federalism and adequate community policing through the establishment of state-controlled police to curb the protracted security challenges in the country. Sad enough, now that it is the ruling party, APC is no longer talking about true federalism, and state police it canvassed while in the opposition,” Fayose said.
The Ekiti state governor noted that Nigeria developed at a higher rate during the 50s and 60s when it was practising a confederal system of government with regions running its own affairs almost autonomously.
