Actor Alec Baldwin Calls For Latest Rush Lawsuit Filed By Halyna Hutchins’ Parents To Be Thrown Out

Following the cinematographer’s untimely death on the Rush set, Halyna Hutchins’ parents and sister filed a lawsuit, and Alec Baldwin has requested that it be dismissed.

According to the American actress, Hutchins’ sister and parents had been estranged from her “for years before her death” in terms of their physical, financial, and emotional connections.

In court filings submitted last Thursday, Baldwin claimed Olga Solovey, Anatolii Androsovych, and Svetlana Zemko only brought the ‘misguided’ lawsuit to ‘seek compensation’ for Hutchins’ passing in October 2021 on the Rush set outside Santa Fe, New Mexico.

‘The loss of a daughter and sister is undoubtedly painful in any circumstance.

‘Yet Plaintiffs—who had been distanced from Halyna physically, financially, and emotionally for years before her death—have no viable cause of action against Defendants,’ the documents state, according to NBC News.

The suit filed in February named Baldwin, the armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, assistant director David Halls as well as Rust Movie Productions, LLC. as the defendants.

The attorney representing Hutchins’ parents and sister, Gloria Allred, reportedly said in a statement on Saturday that Baldwin calling for the lawsuit to be thrown out showed that he was ‘once again attempting to avoid responsibility’.

She added that she and Hutchins’ family were there to make sure Baldwin was ‘held accountable for his actions’.

Halyna Hutchins was shot and killed on October 21, 2021, at the Bonanza Creek Ranch, while Baldwin was rehearsing with a pistol for a scene, also wounding director Joel Souza after the bullet passed through Hutchins.

In January, Baldwin as well as Gutierrez-Reed were charged with involuntary manslaughter and Baldwin has since vowed to fight the charges, calling them a ‘terrible miscarriage of justice’.

He and Rust armourer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed are facing a maximum of 18 months in prison if convicted of involuntary manslaughter.

Prosecutors allege Baldwin pulled the trigger of the gun that killed Hutchins while Gutierrez-Reed failed to ensure it was unloaded.

Director Halls was charged with negligent use of a deadly weapon and has agreed to plead no contest, District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said.

Last year, Baldwin was sued by Hutchins’ husband, Matthew Hutchins and their nine-year-old son, but they reached a settlement in October 2022.
After settling the lawsuit last year, Mr Hutchins claimed he desired no further ‘recriminations’.

But in January, Hutchins’ family said that they support Alec Baldwin being charged with manslaughter.

In his court filing on Thursday, Baldwin said he believed the settlement ‘should have been the end of the matter.’

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for June 9.
