The highly anticipated documentary “Madu,” which tells the tale of a 12-year-old dancer from Nigeria to England, will have its global premiere at the prestigious Santa Barbara International Film Festival on February 7.
After its festival debut, “Madu” will be available to viewers worldwide on Disney+ beginning March 29.
“Madu” tells the inspiring story of Anthony Madu, a 12-year-old dancer who makes the remarkable journey from Nigeria to England, capturing his pursuit of aspirations and the hurdles he faces along the way.
At the core of the film is Madu’s viral video from 2020, which showcases his astonishing dancing moves in the rain and eventually led to a scholarship at the prestigious Elmhurst Ballet School in the UK.
The documentary filmed by Matt Ogens and Kachi Benson goes into Madu’s personal journey, focusing on his challenges with belonging and acceptance in a new setting. The creators’ commitment to magnifying Madu’s tale while promoting cultural understanding is clear throughout the documentary.

Benson, renowned for his pioneering work in virtual reality storytelling, was instrumental in bringing Madu’s story to life on screen.
