A 26-year-old woman was hospitalized at Nanyuki Teaching and Referral hospital after she was stabbed with a knife by her estranged husband for refusing to have sex with him.
Nancy Gatwiri was stabbed on the left cheek below the ear by her husband Stephen Karanja after denying him sex though they separated more than one year ago.
Gatwiri said her husband of five years wanted her back to his home and went ahead to pay dowry of two goats to her family and an extra goat as fine for insulting his in-laws when they were parting ways.
The mother of two said that her husband delivered the goats and since he was apologetic, the family agreed they reconcile but the ceremony was to be conducted in two weeks time.
Karanja, who had visited Gatwiri’s home in Timau, accompanied her to Nanyuki where she wanted to buy stock for her kiosk.
However, while at Nanyuki town Karanja proposed that they hire a hotel room and have sex but the lady refused, saying they should wait for two weeks.
The man was angry with the response and left her to an unknown destination only to come back and tell her that ‘someone would spend the night in the morgue’.
Gatwiri said she thought it was a joke and within no time the man took out a knife and started stabbing her.
She screamed and members of the public came to her rescue. She sustained deep cuts.
The man was arrested and locked up at Nanyuki police station awaiting court trial.
Gatwiri noted that their relationship has been of ups and downs as she vowed never to go back to the husband.
