President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to pitch camp in Kwale for four days next month in what is vote hunting mission ahead of the 2017 general election.
The presidents’ four days tour in Kwale is expected to elicit mixed reaction bearing in mind that three years ago, Jubilee promised to tarmac Kinango – Kwale road but nothing has happened yet.
Other unfulfilled pledges include the construction of Shimoni fishing port.
Kwale women representative said that the president will be in the area to launch the construction of the Samburu – Kinango – Kwale road.
Speaking at Kombani in Matuga where she distributed relief food to locals affected by drought, Chizuga who is among ODM rebels in the coast region said tarmacking of the road is critical for economy of Kwale County.
“We are tired of the delays at the Likoni crossing channel and therefore the Samburu – Kinango – Kwale road will help us a lot,” she noted.
Chizuga said that Uhuru will also launch tarmacking of Vanga – LungaLunga road that has been cut off by floods.
“Contractors are already on the ground waiting for the President’s visit. If the roads are tarmacked, Kwale County will grow economically and most of traders will not be forced to go to Mombasa for business,” she added.
Apart from the roads, the president is also expected to officially launch the construction of Shimoni fishing port that will be equivalent to Dubai and China fishing ports according to the legislator.
“We will be able to get fish from deep see and have enough fish supply. The port will make sure our youths get jobs and this is a clear picture that the government has remembered Kwale County,” she added.
Chizuga said their cooperation with the government has borne fruit.
“When all CORD rebel MPs joined the government, we got over 60 job slots in different parastatals across the country,” she added.
