The government of Ethiopia has denied signing pipeline deal with Kenya.
This follows reports that Ethiopia Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn signed an agreement for the construction of an oil pipeline from Lamu to Addis Ababa when he visited Kenya in June.
Ethiopian Minister of Mines, Petroleum and Natural Gas, Tolossa Shagi however admitted to receiving the pipeline construction proposal but said that it was not “something that we jump into abruptly.”
Speaking to The Reporter, Tolossa said they needed time to check the technical and economical feasility of the project before striking a deal.
According to the Presidency in Nairobi, the June visit by Desalegn saw Kenya and Ethiopia sign pacts in various sectors including oil and gas, health, sports, cross border coöperation in animal health and sanitary measures and field of education.
