The Zimbabwean administration under President Robert Mugabe has expressed its efforts to re-enter into the global financial system, disregarding the Oppositions role.
According to News Day, Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa will be heading a delegation this week to Europe for discussions with the southern African country’s foreign creditors.
MDC-T spokesperson, Obert Gutu, has said that the Opposition have not been made aware of the meeting however, was quick to express doubt over the matter.
He said efforts for re-engagement had already failed at the end of the Government of National Unity (GNU).
“I must be clear that our position is that the problems in Zimbabwe are political. We have housekeeping issues that speak to the nature of our politics that we need to deal with as a country before any such nonsense, as re-engagement, are embarked upon,” he said.
He said there is a long list of problems that cannot simply be change through the endeavour due to Zimbabwe’s inability to uphold its international obligations.
Former Finance minister and acting leader of the People’s Democratic Party, Tendai Biti, described the Zanu PF regime as “an insincere group of liars leading multilateral institutions up a garden path”.
Just last week Chinamasa was reported saying that the reason for Zimbabwe going broke is due to their exclusion from the global economy.
As a result, the government have had to delay payment to their workers because of continued sanctions against the country.
