A senior State official has been charged with the murder of her husband with the help of her two relatives.
Lilian Jepchumba Keter who is a senior human resource official at Rift Valley Water Service Board, her brother Fredrick Koech and nephew Daniel Mwaciru were Wednesday charged in a Nakuru court that on April 16, they killed Ronex Keter at their Kiamunyi home.
Appearing before High Court Judge Maureen Odera, the three did not plead to the charges.
Justice Odera directed the three be taken to a psychiatrist for mental assessment before appearing in court on July 8 to plead to the charges.
Police statements alleged that Keter, who was an employee of Nakuru Water Sewerage and Sanitation Company, was attacked when he arrived at his house and died from the serious injuries he incurred.
The three allegedly attempted to cover up the murder by putting a power cable around his neck.
“That night, he arrived home very drunk and attempted to assault her and the kids but we escaped. When we went back home, we found him lying on the floor with a white electricity cable around his neck,” the accused woman said in her statement.
However, a postmortem report prepared by the family doctor Antony Wainaina and government pathologist Titus Ngulundu contradicted her statement.
