The National Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed the threat by the factional National Chairman of the party, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, to organise a rival governorship primaries for Edo State, reports Thisday.
The committee said the threat is a mere distraction.
Sheriff had on Tuesday described Monday’s Edo State gubernatorial primaries as illegal and unconstitutional, reports News 24.
The primary was conducted by the Ahmed Makarfi faction.
The primary saw the emergence of Osagie Ize-Iyamu as the party’s flagbearer for the Edo State governorship election slated for September 10.
But the committee through its Secretary, Ben Obi, said the PDP governorship primaries in the state have met all the requirements needed for the exercise, including having a representation by INEC.
He said PDP members and Nigerians across the country who watched the primary election beamed live on television can all attest to the transparent nature of the process.
Obi said the PDP caretaker committee presently enjoys the support and loyalty of all the organs of the party, including all the state chapters of the party,
