Kenya: Brit Charged With Murder

court

Kenyan police have charged a former chief executive of a pioneering internet firm with murder in the death of a woman who was shot in his house.

British national Richard David Alden, 53, denied the charges on Friday. Justice Stella Mutuku ordered that Alden be held until Thursday, when his bail application will be heard.

Alden is the former chief executive of Wananchi Group, an internet and multimedia service provider in Kenya.

His previous lawyer, Evans Monari, told British newspapers that Grace Wangeci, 42, died after she shot herself while taking a selfie with Alden’s gun.

Alden’s current lawyer, Cliff Ombeta, says Alden was in a different room when Wangeci shot herself on Saturday and that there is no proof she was taking a selfie.
