State Petroleum Minister Ibe Kachikwu has released a statement concerning militants in the Niger Delta, claiming that they cannot be stopped through military intervention alone.
According to a Naij report, Kachikwu revealed on Monday that Federal Government plans to open a robust dialogue with the militants in order to hear their concerns and help bring an end to pipeline vandalism.
In addition, Kachikwu described the group of vandals as “my brothers”, stating that they cannot be stopped by the Nigerian military alone and must be engaged instead, Vanguard reports.
“The military barrels cannot stop or solve problem of militancy in the Niger–Delta region. I will have to go back to my brothers, they are our brothers we will go and dialogue with them,” he said.
While making his utterance, Kachikwu also disclosed that the Federal Government is currently targeting 2019 as the end of fuel importation in the country, claiming that steps are being taken towards achieving that goal.
