University Of Nairobi To Reopen Next Week.

The University of University (UoN) is to reopen next week, after the institution was shut indefinately complying with days of pupils’ agitation over political election disagreements.

A claim from UoN Academic Registrar announced the resuming days for the institution on Thursday evening.

“The University of Nairobi wishes to notify all students whose programmes were in session before the closure of the university on April 5, 2016 that they will resume their studies as follows: Students from College of Health Sciences Level 5 – Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery degree programmes to resume studies on Monday, April 25, 2016.

“All other programmes in all the colleges and campuses that were in session at the closure of the university on April, 5, 2016 to resume on Tuesday, May 3, 2016,” read the statement.

Meanwhile, the verdicts of more than 150 students who were suspended from the University and appeared before the various College Disciplinary Committees on April 19 – 21, 2016 are out and have been approved by the University Senate.

A statement from UoN Vice Chancellor said those affected should collect letters bearing the verdicts on Friday.

“All the affected students are required to collect letters communicating the verdicts from their respective College Registrars on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 8.00 a.m.  Individual students are required to strictly abide by the Disciplinary verdicts as approved by the University Senate,” Mbithi said in a statement.

UoN was closed indefinitely after a section of students held protests over the re-election of the longest serving SONU chairman, Babu Owino.

SONU offices and a section of students’ hostels were burnt during the riots.
