Albinos In Malawi Mourn 2-Year Old Murder Victim

People with albinism compiled in Kasungu, Malawi, over the weekend break to memorialize the life of a 23-month-old lady that was killed at the start of April, regional paper Nyasa Times has actually reported.

Led by Boniface Massa, chairperson of the Association of People Living with Albinism in Malawi (APAM), the team sang hymns and also held petitions in an initiative to elevate recognition around physical violence against those dealing with the problem.

The victim, Whitney Chilumpha, was abducted on April 1 while in the care of her mother in Chiziya village.

Despite various attempts by police to find the missing child, her skull, teeth and some of her clothes were discovered by her mother two weeks after her disappearance.

The murder sparked widespread outrage across Malawi, with Amnesty International accusing the country’s government of not taking the issue seriously.

In addition, the human rights organisation also alleged that the child’s death had highlighted a need for increased protection for albino nationals.

Police officials in the Kasungu District confirmed that the father of the murdered child, as well as another man, were currently being held in connection with the “criminal act”.
