Ugandan police have arrested the wife of a Muslim cleric, who was hacked to death by thugs, a report said on Monday.
The wife of the Nateete National Mosque’s Sheikh Yunus Lubega was taken into police custody for allegedly having a hand in the death of her husband.
According to the Daily Monitor, Lubega was hacked to death by at least three men with machetes at his home in Buloba, Wakiso District, at around 03:00 on April 7.
Despite his wife denying all allegations, police said they had evidence that linked her to the murder.
An Al Jazeera report indicated that since decades of tyranny by the Lord’s Resistance Army under Joseph Kony, Muslim clerics in Uganda face new fear.
The last two years have seen at least a dozen leading clerics being murdered.
