Ford Kenya party leader, Moses Wetang’ula has told off leaders aligned to opposition coalition who have in the recent days made remarks that might divide the Coalition of Reforms and Democracy (Cord).
The Senate Minority leader blamed some unnamed leaders in Ford Kenya, ODM and Wiper of trying to divide the Cord principals by issuing inflammatory statements to the media, which is bound to cause a fall-out in the coalition leadership.
Speaking during a live interview at a local TV station Tuesday, the Bungoma Senator said he is in Cord to stay and nothing will put him asunder with his fellow Cord co-principals Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka.
“Some of these leaders are making extremely unhelpful statements and I want them to stop. These people creating unnecessary levels of discomfort should know that Raila, Kalonzo and I have no issues that divide us,” he said.
The Ford Kenya party boss emphasized that he is in Cord to stay, explaining that they founded the coalition consensually from scratch and there is no way he can run away from a political ‘house’ that he helped build.
“I have strengthened the coalition and put all my political tidings in it for the last couple of years. I am in Cord to fight it out with my co-principals that I get the ticket for the Presidency. If I don’t get it fairly, I am a good democrat and will accept it, ” he said.
Kakamega Governor, Wycliffe Oparanya who has been at loggerheads with Wetang’ula, early this week told him to fold up his Ford Kenya party and join ODM.
Oparanya in a press statement that has not gone down well with Wetang’ula’s supporters on Monday appealed to the Senator to support Raila Odinga in the 2017 presidential election.
“I wish to let Wetang’ula know that ODM is the party with the largest following and highest number of elected leaders in Western Kenya. It is a fact that Ford Kenya has three elected MPs in all of former Western Province.
“I therefore advise anyone from this region who wants to ascend to national leadership, including Hon Wetang’ula, to join ODM instead of fighting it,” stated Oparanya, who is also the ODM Deputy party leader.
