Uganda’s immigration and citizenship department on Friday paraded a Nigerian citizen who was deported to Uganda from Dubai following illegalities with his passport.
On arrival to Entebbe, Falola Olagide was arrested because he was traveling using a forged passport.
According to the police officer handling Olagide’s file, Nelson Oloya, a good number of Nigerians have been arrested in Europe and Asia while traveling on fraudulently acquired Ugandan passports.
”We are investigating to establish how Nigerian nationals acquire Ugandan passports. We often get to cases of Nigerians arrested while using Ugandan passports in western and Asian countries.”
He said that they suspect that the Nigerians connive with some officials working in the Immigration department.
At the same time, a messenger at Benon Onanywar law firm in Kampala has also been arrested for obtaining money from a woman with promise that he would process her a passport in September last year but up to now has not fulfilled the promise.
The public relations officer of the citizenship and immigration department, Jacob Siminyu said, ”Our department has managed to net these culprits following the efforts to intensify operations in order to clean up its house.”
He noted that Falola Olagide will be charged with forgery, impersonation, obtaining documents by false pretense among other counts whereas Onanywar is likely to face charges of obtaining money by false pretense.
The department confirmed that investigations to crackdown on their accomplices are still on.
