Two prominent human rights groups have openly condemned and has called for an inquiry into the shaving off of 17 000 hectares in Mau Forest intending for resettlement.
According to the Daily Nation both the International Commission of Jurists and Kenya Human Rights Commission they are questioning the process in which land titles for issued out.
They have called for the National Land Commission to launch an investigation.
The matter of resettlement they have stated is already up for dispute with the court in the Ogiek community.
The rights groups issues is that this resettlement will only allow for further forced evictions.
Samwel Mohochi, the executive director for ICJ concerned for the rights of the Ogieks said due process must be followed and investigation should be launched first.
The issue of citizens settling on the Mau Forest has been an ongoing political issue with every new administration coming in.
The matter over forced removals, illegal settlers and the issue of environmental conservation has been an issue.
Meanwhile Narok County Commissioner Moffat Kangi on March 10th warned Mau forest evictees against encroaching forest land.
Kangi said that the government will not allowed further land transactions, putting up of new structures or gazing animals in the region.
