Interior Cabinet Secretary, Joseph Nkaissery has told the Mombasa Governor, Ali Hassan Joho to surrender his guns by 2pm.
Nkaissery further said that Joho risks arrest if he does not obey.
This follows a five-day standoff between the Mombasa Governor and security bosses who ordered him to return his guns saying he was unfit to hold one.
Joho, who has remained defiant, however said that he has never misused his three guns since obtaining license 20 years ago.
On Friday last week, Joho surrendered one of his guns and vowed to keep the remaining ones.
The standoff has spilled into political showdown between the government and opposition, with majority of Kenyans saying that the Governor was being punished for standing with CORD in the recent by-election.
Other governors also put their weight behind Joho, saying the government should allow him to carry a gun.
Cord leader, Raila Odinga also urged him to remain firm and assured him of his support.
On Monday, Joho made an appeal against the order to surrender the guns, saying he was not given a fair administrative hearing.
On Tuesday however, Citizen Digital reported that Nkaissery dismissed the appeal saying it can only be made after surrendering the weapons.
