Nairobi – CORD coalition has accused the electoral commission of favoritism in voter registration exercise across the country.
A section of more the 10 CORD legislators led by ODM Chairman, John Mbadi claimed that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was favoring their counterpart Jubilee coalition in voter registration.
“We are disappointed by the manner in which IEBC is conducting voter registration in the country. Registration in CORD strongholds is being delayed in favor of our competitors,” said Mbadi.
He claimed that the move might be Jubilee’s political strategy to ensure the opposition’s strongholds don’t register more voters ahead of next year’s polls.
“We demand that IEBC fast-tracks voter registration equally across the country because it is only 18 months to general elections,” he added.
The opposition has been complaining of favoritism in issuance of IDs and voter registration, which they have been terming as the government’s plot to easily win the 2017 elections.
