Director General Muhammad Sani Sidi said on Thursday that his agency “does not consent to the process” of planning being handled by the UN Office for the Co-ordination of Humanitarian Affairs. The AP is seeking comment from the UN.
Sidi said the Nigerian government is “already on top of the humanitarian challenges.” Non-government agencies have complained that some refugees have been dumped at sites without proper shelter, sanitation or even water.
The UN estimates that about 2.3 million people, nearly half children, have been forced from their homes in the 6-year-old uprising to turn Nigeria into an Islamic state that has killed about 20 000 people.
