Couple Discovers 200-Year-Old Gravestone Below Their Living Room Floor

Workers in the southern town of Trelleborg were removing the old floor at the home of Gert and Carin Nilsson when one of them struck a stone with his shovel.

That stone turned out to be a 190 centimeters long, 80 centimeters wide and 10 centimeters thick tombstone, with three names – two male and one female – engraved in it.

The house was built in the early 1900s, and the Nilssons have lived in it for nearly 30 years – never suspecting that the gravestone had been under their feet the whole time.

“It is very heavy. We don’t know if anyone is buried under the stone. I hope not. It all feels a bit bewildering and weird,” says Carin. The couple have contacted the local parish priest to find out more about the people. Next, they will try to get the stone in the garden.
