Cape Town – Three victims killed in a fire in Hout Bay on Wednesday night have yet to be identified, provincial police have confirmed.SAPS spokesperson Constable Noloyiso Rwexana said the particulars of the three victims, believed to be between the ages of 20 and 30, were not yet known.
They are understood to have been in one of the shacks that burnt down.
“The circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated and an inquest docket was opened for investigation,” Rwexana said.
City of Cape Town Fire Services spokesperson Theo Lane said firefighters responded to the blaze at 20:30 and managed to douse the flames within an hour.
“Three fatalities were recorded – one man, one woman and another victim whose gender could not be determined as the person was burnt beyond recognition,” Lane said.
Seventeen others lost their homes in the blaze.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined, Lane confirmed.
“Reports of an explosion were received, however no indication to support this was found.”
