A freelance journalist was killed on Wednesday night by armed gangsters who raided his home in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.
Reports indicate that three men armed with an AK47 rifle broke into Dennis Otieno’s house at 12am, ransacked it before they shot him several times killing him instantly.
It’s believed that the gang was trying to recover photos that the late journalist had taken at an event.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that in an attempt to cover up the motive of the murder, the three stole a TV set and woofer which they later dumped within the compound.
The suspects are also said to have made away with Otieno’s camera.
The attackers found Otieno’s wife Janet Otieno fetching water outside the house and forced her to get inside.
“The three demanded a certain photo before engaging him, while trying to defend himself, they shot twice but missed. The third shot killed him.” the wife recounted.
Kwanza OCPD Wilfred Mogere confirmed the incident and said police are already pursuing the suspects.
The body of the late journalist was taken to the Kitale District Hospital mortuary.
