President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday revealed how the Niger Delta Avengers were merely seeking to destabilize the Nigerian economy through their attacks on oil and gas installations throughout Niger Delta.
According to a Punch report, the President made his utterances through a statement released by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina.
While speaking to Germany’s Foreign Minister, Dr. Frank-Walters Steinmeier, Buhari claimed that the security crisis faced by the North-East is under control, while stating that Boko Haram has largely been defeated.
Buhari disclosed that dealing with militants is a more complex matter than dealing with members of Boko Haram due to Niger Delta Avengers and various other groups not having a central command and due to some militants being mere extortioners.
“We need to understand who the real agitators are, and engage with them, so that confidence can be restored in the region,” said Buhari.
Applauding Buhari’s war against corruption, Steinmeier pledged Germany’s support to Nigeria’s cause while confirming that the European country would be interested in investing in renewable energy, gas exploration and mining, among others.
