Pretoria, Aug 6 (Prensa Latina) The South African Caster Semenya sparkled again on the most recent day of the 21 African Athletics Championships held in Nigeria, this time breaking the 800m level reputation set for a long time in the landmass.
Local press reports have discharged today that Semenya outperformed the 1:56:36 stamp set by the Mozambican Maria Mutola in the South African city of Durban in 1993, when the timekeepers halted at 1:56.06.
The world and Olympic champion won her second gold medal in this event held in Asaba, Nigeria, after winning the 400m gold medal in 49.96 seconds and thus surpassing the South African record in that event, which had been in effect for 18 years.
At the moment, the 27-year-old woman is holding the national records at 400, 800, 1,000 and 1,500 meters.
Semenya won 800m in the 2009 and 2017 world championships and was crowned Olympic champion in the same category in Rio de Janeiro in 2016.
