Troops of the Operation Lafiya Dole have killed an unspecified number of alleged Boko Haram members during an operation to capture Mallam Fatori in northernmost parts of Borno State.
Confirming the report on Wednesday morning, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman, said “several” members of the sect were killed following an encounter boosted by air strikes, assisted by the Multinational Joint Task Force.
“As part of Operation Gama Aiki, troops of Operation Lafiya Dole and Multinational Joint Task Force captured Mallam Fatori in northernmost part of Borno State after a fierce battle closely covered by air operations,”
Usman said.
He added that the suspects reinforced around the border with Niger Republic while the troops were consolidating on the success.
Usman said the troops subsequently withdrew to a vantage position as the operation continued.
