Eight students from University of Nairobi (UoN) who were expelled over the students protests last month are in court appealing their dismissal.
According to Capital FM the students told the court that the decision to expel and suspend them was made too hastily.
They also argue they were slapped with unrelated charges and not given a chance to defend themselves saying the University is using their position of power to punish them.
They pleaded with the High Court to allow them to return to classes.
Therefore Judge Weldon Korir prioritized their case to be heard on Thursday.
Students from UoN were protesting the re-election of Babu Owino as the Students’ Union chair, saying that he had rigged his way into office.
A video went viral showing police beating the students up where they are seen lying down in a straight line as the GSU officers go back and forth hitting them with rods.
