Understanding the Three Main Laptop Types

If you are looking for a new laptop, then you probably already know that there are lots of different types to choose from. Whether you need a laptop for work, school, or just for your everyday personal life, determining which type of laptop might be the best option for you isn’t always easy. In general, laptops are divided into three different categories – notebooks, 2-in-1s, and ultrabooks. Let’s take a look at each type in more detail.

Notebooks or Basic Laptops

A notebook or basic laptop is basically a laptop that doesn’t convert into a tablet. It’s unlikely to be powerful and ultra-thin like an ultrabook, and usually has the basic everyday features that you’d expect from a laptop. However, just because basic laptops don’t come with a range of fancy and high-end features, this isn’t to say that they are not worth considering. If you don’t need special features like a screen that you can use as a tablet, then a basic laptop from the Lenovo business notebooks range might be the best option for you.

2-in-1 Laptops

The 2-in-1 laptop has quickly become one of the most popular types of laptops available. People enjoy it because it’s a very versatile option that can be either a laptop or tablet depending on what you prefer. Essentially, a 2-in-1 laptop functions as both a laptop and a tablet, so you can use it for working on throughout the day and detach it for watching movies when commuting or playing games when you’re relaxing at home. There are two different types of 2-in-1 laptop, each of which has some main differences. Detachable 2-in-1s have a display that comes away from the keyboard so you can use it as a regular tablet. However, this type tends to have less power due to the fact that there is not a lot of room for internal components like the processor. The other type is a convertible 2-in-1, which can rotate all the way around rather than splitting into two different parts, putting the keyboard behind the screen to convert into a tablet.

Ultrabooks are generally considered to be the most cutting-edge laptop options. They are usually very powerful, portable, slim, and lightweight. However, to achieve all of this, most ultrabooks have had to make a few trade-offs. They will usually never have a CD drive and tend to use low-power processors to conserve battery life. However, if you have more than a couple of hundred pounds to spend on your next laptop and want to invest your money into something that is built for performance and versatility, an ultrabook might be an ideal option for you.

Choosing a laptop isn’t always easy with many different options to choose from. Understanding the differences between these three main types of laptops will help you determine which one is going to be the best fit for your needs. Basic laptops will usually provide you with everything that you need for everyday use, but you may want to consider spending more on an ultrabook or 2-in-1 if you want the extra features.
