Two Policemen Shot Dead As Robbers Attack CBN Bullion Vans

Two mobile policemen were killed in the early hours of Tuesday at Hawan Kibo along Jos – Abuja road as armed robbers attacked a convoy of bullion vans belonging to the Central Bank of Nigeria, Punch reports.

The bullion vans and their retinue of armed mobile policemen escorts had left Jos in the early hours of Tuesday enroute Abuja.

The armed robbers, wearing military uniforms, emerged from a bush somewhere along Hawan Kibo, and attacked a patrol team belonging the Plateau State security outfit, attached to Riyom local government, killing a mobile police officer on the spot.

It was gathered that it was at this point that the CBN convoy also ran into the armed robbers who opened fire on it. The incident was said to have happened at about 8.30 am.

The robbers engaged the escort in a shootout, leading to the death of the second mobile police officer, who was in the CBN convoy.

The police officer was identified as Sgt. Anthony Jawa, from Mobile Police Squad (MOPOL) 8, Jos according to Yohaig.ng

Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Tyopev Terna confirmed the incident

He said he was yet to receive the full report from the Riyom Divisional Police station.

The CBN bullion vans and escort were presently at the Federal Road Safety office in Riyom.
