Sudanese Police Seize 15,000 Pieces Of Cannabis Goods

Sudanese police on Sunday announced the crackdown of a criminal network and seizure of around 15,000 pieces of cannabis goods.

After violent clashes and exchanges of fire, two suspects of the criminal group were arrested, along with the seizure of a vehicle and two Kalashnikov rifles, said a police statement.

The police said they obtained information about the criminal group travelling on a vehicle loaded with cannabis from the production areas in South Darfur State to Khartoum State.

A field team was formed to follow the vehicle, the police said, noting that upon the vehicle’s arrival at the outskirts of Khartoum State, the suspects clashed and exchanged fire with the police force.

Three members of the police force were injured and transferred to Ribat University Hospital in Khartoum.

According to statistics from the general administration for combating drugs, Sudan is considered the biggest producer of cannabis in Africa, accounting for 60 percent of the production.

The general administration for combating drugs in Sudan organizes annual campaigns to crack down on cannabis farms.
