The Nzimande family confirmed that Mzwandile Nzimande, popularly known as DJ 1D died on Wednesday after testing positive for Covid-19.
“It is with profound grief and sadness that we confirm the passing of our husband, brother, father and son, Mzwandile Nzimande (44). He sadly passed away on Wednesday, the 13th January 2020 at 9:00 at the Olivedale Clinic in Johannesburg after being diagnosed positive with Covid-19,” said a statement released by the family.
Mzwandile was the co-founder of popular streetwear and lifestyle brand Loxion Kulca.
“He was known to all as a true friend and brother,” said the statement.
He leaves behind his beloved wife Hlapo, three daughters Senzi, Zandi and Zwelethu, and two brothers Bheki and Ayanda.
The family humbly request some time as they go through this difficult period of grieving. “We are deeply thankful for all the messages of love and support so far; they are felt and appreciated,” says the family.
The funeral service will follow all Covid-19 protocols under the South African law, and will only be open to immediate family members and close friends.
