A senior Hamas official says a delegation from the Islamic militant group is heading to Cairo to discuss the group’s strained relationship with the Egyptian government.
The official spoke anonymously as he is not authorised to brief the media on this issue.
Relations between Hamas and Egypt have soured since the 2013 military ouster of Islamist President Mohammed Morsi; Hamas and Morsi’s Muslim Brotherhood were close allies.
Last week, Cairo accused Hamas of playing a major role in the 2015 assassination of Egypt’s chief prosecutor.
Earlier, Gaza’s health ministry said a girl died from wounds sustained the night before when shrapnel from a nearby Israeli airstrike penetrated her home. The girl’s brother was killed in the strike.
