In Somalia, Al-Shabab Ambush African Union Troops, 23 Killed

According to Reuters news, the Somalia’s Islamist militant group al-Shabab says it has killed 39 African Union (AU) troops in an ambush on their convoy in the Lower Shabelle region

The AU failed to give casualty figures but said on its Twitter account that, “A lot of damage was inflicted on the enemy while our troops took fatalities whose number is yet to be ascertained.”

AMISOM tweet that, ” We salutes the gallant officers who have made sacrifices to ensure that peace is restored in Somalia.”

“Such incidents that require at times our soldiers to pay the ultimate price will not deter our resolve to accomplish the mission,” AMISOM said.

Ruters news agency report that, the Lower Shabelle deputy governor Ali Nur said, “23 AU troops and a Somali soldier were killed in Sunday’s ambush.”
