Kenya: I Respect Raila Odinga But President Uhuru Is Better, MP Says

I respect Raila Odinga but will work with Uhuru since he is better, an MP has said.

Stephen Kariuki the Mathare MP has dumped ODM for the Jubilee Party and is now a full blown member of the ruling wing.

He has been criticised by ODM leaders in Nairobi for using the party to help him ascend to Parliament and then move elsewhere.

However, Kariuki says that he has joined the ruling coalition because he feels his heart and that of Mathare constituency is settled there.

” I am happy to join Jubilee but it was not entirely my decision. The constituents in Mathare also played a part,” he told News24.

He said that he has no hard feelings with CORD leader Raila Odinga, who he says he respects highly.

” I respect him for his ideals and what he has done for this country, which is why I joined ODM in the first place. I have no problem with Raila and I wish him all the best in the coming elections,” Kariuki added.

He also stated that he feels President Uhuru Kenyatta deserves a chance to complete his projects for the nation for another 5 years before retiring.

” The President deserves a chance to complete his development projects in the country,” he stated.

Kariuki was among 13 ODM leaders who joined the new Jubilee Party two weeks ago.
