Queen Elizabeth’s Cousin, Simon Bowes-Lyon Pleads Guilty To Sexual Assault At Glamis Castle

Queen Elizabeth’s cousin, Simon Bowes-Lyon, has pleaded guilty to the sexual assault of a 26-year-old woman.

According to BBC, the Earl of Strathmore forced his way into the woman’s room during a weekend event he was hosting at Glamis Castle in February 2020. He assaulted her repeatedly and tried to pull off her nightdress during the 20-minute attack.

The woman left the castle, which has been the Bowes-Lyon family’s home since 1372, the following morning, and reported the matter to police.

The castle is now being assessed for its suitability to house Simon while under a tagging order, as the now registered sex offender’s been granted bail; his sentence was deferred.

Simon, who is a great-great-nephew of the Queen Mother and cousin twice removed of Queen Elizabeth, according to People, said he is “greatly ashamed” of his actions.

“Clearly, I had drunk to excess on the night of the incident. I should have known better. I recognise, in any event, that alcohol is no excuse for my behaviour.”

According to the Daily Record, the 34-year-old was drunk and smelled of cigarettes when he told the woman he wanted to have an affair. While the woman resisted, the royal pushed her onto a bed, groped her and tried to kiss her.

“I did not think I was capable of behaving the way I did but have had to face up to it and take responsibility.” he said. “My apologies go, above all, to the woman concerned, but I would also like to apologise to family, friends and colleagues for the distress I have caused them.”
