For the first time in more than 30 years, the royals won’t be spending Christmas together at Sandringham.
Amid the pandemic, the queen will remain at Windsor for a “quiet” festive season with Prince Philip. Though Her Majesty may see Prince Charles and Camilla over the holiday period, Prince William said on the Cambridges Royal Train tour that he and Kate were “still trying to make plans”, while Prince Harry and Meghan will spend their first Christmas in their new Montecito home in the US.
A source said the Sussexes are rather “excited to decorate for Christmas”. “They are very happy. Archie is thriving and growing quickly.”
Now, a source has confirmed that while the Sussexes and Cambridges may not be together this year, they’re doing what they can to ensure a very merry Christmas for all. An insider tells People, Harry and Meghan and William and Kate have been sending presents back and forth ahead of Christmas. The rest of the royal family has also joined in the festive gift-giving ahead of their first Christmas apart.
We’re sure the royals will find some way to be together over Christmas though – even if it’s just for a virtual hang. The queen did, after all, start carrying out her engagements on Zoom during the pandemic, while other members of the family have made mention of a royal family WhatsApp group!
A source has told Entertainment Tonight Harry and Meghan will speak to their family in the UK via Zoom and they’ve got plans to play “games online”.
The insider added of the Sussex family and the rest of the royals: “Everyone is on better terms and have been for quite some time. The relationship has improved and Covid has brought everyone closer together.”
