Lokoja – There appears to be a crack in the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) over who to support in the Kogi governorship election, reports The Nation.
Governors elected under the party’s platform and members of its National Working Committee (NWC) are divided over whether or not to support Governor Idris Wada for second term.
The jostle for the party’s ticket in the November election is between Wada and a former banker, Jibrin Isa Echocho.
While Governor Olusegun Mimiko, ex-Governors Liyel Imoke and Ibrahim Idris are supporting Wada, Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti, two governors and some NWC members prefer Echocho because of his wider acceptance by PDP members and the electorate.
Attempts by Mimiko and Imoke to convince Echocho to step down for Wada has be rebuffed as Echocho has vowed not to step down for anybody.
Fayose and other NWC members, who are kicking against giving the party’s ticket to Wada believed his candidacy is not sellable because of his performance.
