Missy Elliott is set to be honoured with a Video Vanguard Award at this year’s MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs).
The rapper will receive the award for her music video contributions over the years at the awards set to take place on August 26 at the Prudential Center in New Jersey.
The 48-year-old took to social media to thank her “FANS “Supafriends” who fought diligently to see this day come”.
Head of music and music talent at Viacom and co-brand head at MTV International, Bruce Gillmer, said that”Missy’s impact on the music landscape is indelible.
“Her creative vision across production, performance and songwriting is unmatched.”
Missy will perform at this year’s ceremony.
Previous recipients of the award include Madonna, Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kanye, Justin Timberlake, and Britney Spears.
Missy is the first female rapper to receive the prestigious award.
